Holly Francis: Friends Fanfiction

Holly named her fanfiction "The one where Ross gets a new career idea", and I really enjoyed reading it. Overall I could really tell how well she knew the show and characters, as when I read the story, I could really imagine the characters embodying the things they were saying and doing. With Friends being a show that lasted for 10 years, each character is really defined, but I think Holly has done an excellent job of fitting this scene into the plotline. I thought this fanfiction was funny, creative and would've made a great additional episode to the show. I especially liked how Joey didn't know what kind of Doctor Ross was and how that joke continued throughout the story and how she revisited it at the end! I realise that the better you know and are familiar with the world and characters you're writing about, the more authentic your work feels.

Liam Stewart: Doctor Who Fanfiction

I love Doctor Who. But this fanfiction was written about a set of characters and adventures I'm unfamiliar with. This fanfiction was written (from what I can gather) about the first generation of Doctor's before the reboot so when I was reading it took me a little while to get a sense of the story and the characters. However I really like how Liam has still captured the Doctor's quirkiness like when he gets the name of his companion wrong. I really liked how the whole story is kind of a lead-in to a Doctor adventure that we can assume the characters are about to have. I think the story is written really well and I like the idea that all the people on Earth are frozen!

Yubin Hong: Inside Out Fanfiction

This was a really beautiful fanfiction. The story felt really personal and emotional, so I have the upmost respect and praise for Yubin, to tell her story of moving from South Korea to NZ alone and what that was like. The story was very moving and I felt really sad reading about it, but I love that it's a story of growth where the main character comes out of her shell and approaches people to make friends. I think an Inside Out fanfic it's a really nice way to express that. Being that this fanfiction was written in the authors second language I think it's also written really well, obviously there are things to work on but it must be very difficult to write creatively in another language so kudos.
